Fortress Motion Sensor Bollard Lights – Surface Mounted
These motion sensor bollards have Fortress heads which are available in 3 different head styles, ‘domed’, ‘pillar’ or ‘flat’ top. 2 different heights are available (800mm or 1000mm) – a height suitable for every application such as driveways, paths and sectioned areas.
These professional motion sensor bollards are fitted with an in-built PIR sensor. If security lighting is required throughout the night, these are a great addition. The bollards will turn on and off automatically, so once installed, little maintenance is required. No need to remember to switch the fitting on and off manually. Fitted with an E27 LED bulb holder, this PIR bollard is an ideal and effective way to reduce energy bills yet add security. With an adjustable PIR sensor, detection range, light control and time settings can be set to your required setting.
The head and 2.5mm thick extruded cylinder of the bollard are heavy duty die-cast aluminium. All screws are stainless steel, resulting in a completely rustproof and non-corrosive model.
Importantly, the Fortress head guards and protects the internal UV-stop polycarbonate lens and lamp from damage and vandalism. With 6 rings of robust aluminium surrounding the head, it is perfect for use in higher risk areas. Examples are gravel drives, public places, as well as areas where garden machinery may be used.
Distance between illuminated bollards – how far?
The distance between bollards varies depending on the bulb’s light output. Also the type of area, and how much light you require. Below are some guidelines to determine how many bollards may be required for your project, based on our recommended bulbs providing a constant light between each fitting:
- 15W LED Corn Bulb – 3m apart
In the event of damage after installation, Fostering carry stocks of replacement spare parts. These include Bollard Heads, PC lenses, Bulb Holders.

Surface mount bollards are installed on top of an existing solid surface, such as concrete or asphalt. Depending on the surface various types of bolts can be used, with expanding anchor bolts being one of the most secure options. They are a versatile option for locations where digging into the ground isn’t feasible or where temporary installation is preferred. These bollards offer easy installation and relocation, making them ideal for flexible or non-permanent applications.
Surface mounted bollards can be securely fixed to the ground using J-bolts. These would be attached to the surface mount with the bolts sunk into a wet concrete base, rather than the tube buried in the ground. This installation method provides a strong, stable foundation while allowing for easy removal or replacement if needed. These bollards are ideal for permanent installations in areas where digging or extensive groundwork is not an option, offering both durability and flexibility.
Surface mount bollards with in-ground spikes are designed to be anchored to soft ground with a spike that drives into the ground beneath the bollard. This method offers strong stability while being easier to install than traditional root mounts, as it requires no concrete or extensive digging. They are a great choice for private locations where a secure yet removable bollard is needed, providing a durable solution with quick and easy installation.
