The Soldial is a recessed solar light with in-built solar panel. It has a contemporary, stainless steel bezel and the body is made of die-cast aluminium. The Soldial is a recessed solar light with in-built solar panel. It has a contemporary, stainless steel bezel and the body is die-cast aluminium. At dusk, the light is activated with a fade in, which then fades back out at dawn. 3W LEDs produce up to 210lm (70lm/w) which is the perfect output for a marker light. With a choice of daylight white and warm white, the Soldial recessed solar light will look beautiful edging any area.
Technology
The 6v 0.6w polycrystalline solar panel will reach full charge in as little as 6 hours of sunshine producing power for many hours. When illuminated, the solar decking light follows a gradual dimming sequence over a 12 hour period. Consequently, battery is retained for even longer. First hour = 100% brightness, 2 hours = 70% brightness, 2 hours = 50% brightness, 7 hours = 30% brightness.
Reliable, Lithium Ion batteries (18650) are located within the solar light. These are expected to last for several years, along with the solar panel and LEDs, all of which have a 2 year guarantee.

Light Pollution & Colour Temperature
Reducing light pollution is crucial for protecting wildlife, preserving natural ecosystems, and maintaining our ability to stargaze. Always try to use the minimal light output required for your application, rather than unnecessarily excessive outputs. Excessive artificial light disrupts the behavior of nocturnal animals, including bats, which rely on darkness for feeding and navigation. Our “bat-friendly” lights are specifically designed to minimise light spill and reduce disturbances to bat habitats. By using these lights, we can provide safer environments for wildlife while ensuring outdoor spaces remain well-lit and functional.
Warmer colour temperatures have a less disruptive impact on wildlife and help reduce star-warping. For instance, bats are less affected by red-toned lights, which produce orange or yellow hues, compared to cooler, daylight white or blue lights higher in the spectrum. Blue light, being the most harmful for light pollution, should be minimised. The best solution is to use colour temperatures of 3000K or lower, with 2700K often referred to as “bat-friendly” lighting.

Battery Retention & Charging
Battery retention in solar products is crucial for ensuring reliable performance over time. High-quality batteries, such as LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) and Lithium-ion, maintain their charge capacity for longer, even with repeated charging cycles. Fostering have incorporated UK-specific dimming sequences into many solar bollard designs to reduce light output throughout the night when less light is required. As a result, this helps to retain battery charge for longer, as do motion sensors. Regular maintenance and choosing products with quality solar technology are key to maximising retention and longevity.
